VACANCY FOR A PARISH COUNCILLOR

A vacancy has arisen on Walton Parish Council. The Returning Officer has confirmed that no election has been requested. The Council will therefore fill the vacancy by co-option at a forthcoming meeting.

• Why you would like to become a Parish Councillor, and • What skills or experience you can bring to the Council.

This vacancy will remain open until the position is filled.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old and a British citizen, qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a relevant EU citizen, and meet at least one of the following:

1) Be registered as a local government elector for Walton parish;
2) Have occupied as owner or tenant land or premises in the parish for the past 12 months;
3) Have had your principal or only place of work in the parish during the past 12 months;
4) Have resided in the parish, or within 3 miles of it, for the past 12 months.

You cannot serve if you:

• Are employed by Walton Parish Council;
• Are subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order;
• Have received a prison sentence (including suspended) of 3 months or more in the last 5 years; or
• Are disqualified under electoral or corruption legislation.

Parish Councillors represent the local community, help shape services, and support village projects. Training and guidance are provided.
